Robert Osorio

Owner | Head Coach | Fight Team

Coach Robert is from the Mission District of San Francisco, and has 35+ years of experience coaching boxing. In the last 5 years he’s taken on coaching pros and amateurs in boxing and MMA. He’s a husband, father of 4 and grandfather of 11.

He has 35+ years of experience in retail where he was recognized as a top developer of leaders from two top 50 Fortune 500 companies, and sat with 4 CEOs / Presidents. He started Osorio Training Center out of his garage to help kids through bullying. His goal is to create a safe place where youth can express themselves in a healthy environment. He believes that boxing, jiu-jitsu and weight lifting can help with anger, and give a safe avenue to relieve stress.

Coach Robert is the Owner + Head Coach at Osorio Training Center. He loves to cook and spend time with his family.

  • Miguel Carrion

    Instructor | Personals | Fight Team

    Miguel is from San Lorenzo, California. He’s the oldest of his siblings and always enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

    He started boxing at Osorio Training Center as a client in late 2021, and soon after became a part of the OTC family in March of 2022. He’s a Personal Trainer, certified through NASM, and a current amateur boxer for OTC.

    Miguel is a coach, and helps out with the gym’s management by overseeing the day-to-day operations.

  • Susan

    Instructor | Adult Boxing | Women’s Boxing

    Coach Susan was born and raised in the East Bay with her 2 brothers and older sister. Her parents migrated from Afghanistan in the 80's with only a few dollars in their pockets. Today, you can find her father, Issa, running his own shop of over 20 years in Castro Valley: Villa Roma Pizza. Small business and community is very powerful and meaningful for Susan; it's the community who make this home.

    Susan started boxing in 2017 and has never stopped loving the sport since. She became a coach for Google in 2019 and began working at Osorio Training Center in January 2023 as the women's instructor, where she provides a safe and positive environment for women’s wellness and empowerment. She enjoys celebrating people and building their confidence as they walk out of the gym.

    Susan currently lives in Castro Valley with her husband, who both work in tech, and you can find them traveling the world at least 2-3 times a year.

  • Mayet Hedrick-Sumchai

    Instructor | Youth Boxing

    Mayet is from Venice Beach, CA. You can always catch her with a skateboard and a smile on her face. She’s a daughter, the youngest of her siblings, and a cousin. She’s a 5th generation Venice Beach native.

    She truly understood the meaning of community when she came to Osorio Training Center - the value, commitment and comradery is important to her. At OTC, she feels supported and as though she were around family. She started boxing in 2021; she considers boxing a very technical sport, a good mental exercise and she appreciates the athleticism and commitment to her body. She started boxing at OTC in 2022.

    Mayet is the Assistant Manager at Osorio Training Center. She loves to go to concerts and considers herself a foodie; she likes to spend time with her friends and family. She’s always down for a jolly good time!

  • Omar Carrion

    Team Member | Fight Team

    Omar is a local amateur boxer from Ashland, California. He is a brother to two siblings and a son; he’s a true Bay Area native who knows all the hot spots.

    Omar started boxing in 2017, and recently has decided to pursue it more seriously as a fighter. Omar started boxing at Osorio Training Center in 2022.

    Omar is a team member at Osorio Training Center and loves to eat at various places across the Bay.

  • Rosaura Figueroa Mendoza

    Grant Writer

    Rosaura is a queer, Chicana artist from South Hayward, CA. She’s the daughter of Mexican immigrants, a sister, auntie + friend.

    Upon graduating from Mt. Eden High School in 2009, she attended San José State University, where she earned a degree in Sociology + Concentration in Community Change.

    Rosaura is the Grant Writer at Osorio Training Center; she's also the Founder + Creative Director of StackFest. She loves boxing with Coach Robert Osorio, capoeira with Mestre Recruta, dancing + laughing.

  • Juan Medina

    Instructor

    Juan is a professional boxer with 10 years experience, a first generation college graduate, and a big Dodgers & Lakers fan. He’s from South Hayward, a son and a brother to three sisters.

    He has internship experience at physical therapy clinics and did strength & conditioning training at Stanford and East Bay. He has his Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, is NASM certified, and is currently studying to get CSCS certified. His motivation is his wellness; he feels good because of all that he does, and he looks after his health.

    Juan is a boxing instructor at Osorio Training Center, does personal training & volunteers for strength and conditioning at CSU, East Bay. He likes going to sporting events (baseball, hockey, etc.), hanging out with his friends, family & girlfriend, and running.

  • Marilyn Cortez

    Front Desk Associate

    Marilyn is a high school student who was raised in Hayward as a first-generation child of immigrants from El Salvador. She’s a daughter, sister, auntie and friend to her community.

    Marilyn has interned at Las Bonitas Fashions, and is the Creative Manager of StackFest. She started training at Osorio Training Center in March 2024. Her motivation is to become financially free and independent.

    You can always catch Marilyn at the Osorio Training Center front desk with a big smile. She works at StackFest planning events for the community, and for fun she likes to go out with friends / family, and traveling.

  • Brian | “Coach Lock”

    Instructor

    Coach Lock was born in Columbus, Ohio and started playing football, joined a track team and boxing at 10 years old. He moved to Sacramento, California in the summer of 1985 just before his 15th birthday, where he played football and ran track in high school.

    After graduating high school and a couple attempts at a junior college education, he decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a music career, which ultimately brought him back to Northern California. Since then he’s become a father that is intensely involved in his sons’ sports lives. That led him to start coaching football and learning what it means to lead a group of young people in a physically competitive sport. He has 12 years of football coaching experience, and in the off-season uses boxing as a tool to help develop hand speed, strength and footwork.

    He is USA Football and USA Boxing certified and regularly attends video trainings in his free time to stay on top of the latest safety, training protocols and techniques. He is motivated by what boxing and football did for his confidence, character, and the voice it gave him. Those are things that he believes are important for young people to develop in their lives. Seeing an athlete grow as they continue along in any sporting program is incredible.

  • Ian Andazola

    Team Member | Fight Team

    Ian is from Stockton, California. He’s the firstborn son and has 6 other siblings.

    Ian has always been an all-around athlete growing up. He started playing sports at 9 years old and has participated in baseball, judo, football, wrestling and boxing. He is a competitive athlete who started doing tournaments at 12 years old. His motivation for what he does now is to work to become the best athlete he can be, while also bringing up those around him.

    Ian is the Closing Manager at Osorio Training Center, and he’s a barber outside of the gym. He likes hanging out with his siblings and his dog for fun.

  • Manny Cruz, Jr.

    Fight Team Assistant

    Manny Cruz, Jr is a student who was born and raised in Hayward, California. He is a son, brother, and a friend.

    He started working out with his Uncle Rob at 12 years old, when Osorio Training Center was still in the garage. His motivation is to help his Uncle Rob with the business and get a lot of people in the gym.

    Manny is Coach Rob’s assistant for the fight team. For fun, he spends time with family and friends.
